Games: Definition/Description
By definition a non-recreational game is an artificially structured situation and exercise, designed to
be fun or diversionary. In generally healthy societies such games are considered
normal or appropriate for children, when the games are not engaged in by adults. A
legitimate rationale for games is learning, preparation and practice, but
"real life" is not a game.
Categories of Games
Games can be categorized as fun and playful, serious or diversionary, constructive or destructive.
This article focuses primarily on unproductive and/or destructive games
Constructive Games One of the major
dimensions to the human soul is the desire to have fun. Adults as well as
children can construct games that are fun and rewarding. Especially in a romantic
relationship games play a major part, and they will be specialized for the
parties and their psychological makeup.
Destructive Games Destructive "games"
will be consciously or unconsciously designed out of resentment to
denigrate, belittle or diminish the other party. Some "games" that women
indulge in are emasculating and therefore misandrous. Some "games" that men
indulge in are devaluing and misogynous. Much of the time in marriages the relationship
deteriorates into degrees of hidden power struggles. These are often so
unconsciously artful or devious that neither partner is aware of this
destructive game being "played", yet the resentment at least
smolders if not bursting into flame.. |
